ABOUT THE adventure

An epic trail running adventure in the Middle East. A journey through the mountains, amongst traditional villages and deep into local wadi's leaves you in wonderment. Joins us and experience having the trails to ourselves as we work our way through the Al-Hajar mountain range beneath the highest point in Oman, Jebel Shams. Magnificent escarpments and a real sense of solitude can be found here. We cover 100km on a journey across this landscape and experience the local culture as we travel from one place to the next.

itinerary

DAy 1

Arrive into Muscat International Airport. No need to do anything we will have your transfer ready to take you to your accommodation for a night in Muscat.

DAy 2

Wake early to breakfast before having a quick brief about what to expect over the following days. We take a quick kit check and head to the first trail-head. Today we follow a single trail heading north with a gradual ascent. Waiting for us at the end of the trail is our transport whisking us to nearby accommodation for the night.

day 3

After a good nights rest in the mountains we wake for an early breakfast before setting out. We traverse the red limestone landscape as we trail-blaze across the Jebel Ahkdar using a series of established UTMB Oman route along with local unmarked trails. A night beneath the stars sees us spend a night camped out. Arrive at our destination with tent accommodation already erected. The afternoon is spent relaxing nearby before a shared evening meal.

Day 4

Raise to an early breakfast as we set out on a slightly longer day over a series of traditional hiking routes that are not waymarked. The final section sees us climb up before descending into Balad Sayt, a traditional mountain village that is worthy of the day's effort. We base ourselves here for the afternoon and evening. With snake gorge in easy reach there is plenty to do with you downtime should you wish.

Day 5

A shorter day sees us initially climb to the high point of the day over a reasonably exposed steep section before making our way down an established path towards Al Hamra. We base ourselves in a nearby village for two nights as we get a chance to recuperate and take in some local culture.

Day 6

Free day. We have breakfast at our guesthouse then the day is as you wish. Sit and drink tea in the village or take a stroll to nearby Al Hamra for a glimpse into the local culture, check out Bait Al Safah museum for Omani traditions. Nearby Al Hoota caves provide another natural spectacle within easy reach. Lunch and dinner is not provided for on this day.

Day 7

We have a well-deserved lay in and meet for the final day of trail running. We start our journey back towards Muscat but ensure we get one final run in enroute. We will be dropped at the trailhead for a shorter and in general easier route. Once finished  we meet our support vehicle and leave the mountains behind as we return to Muscat City for the evening. Here we stay in the same accommodation as on the first night and leave you to explore the city in the afternoon. An evening meal at a local restaurant provides the perfect antidote for the missing of the mountains.  Your outbound flight should be arranged for the following day.

Day 8

Breakfast in the hotel gives a final opportunity to say by to your new trail running friends and support team. Private transfers back to Muscat International Airport are arranged for you to catch your outbound flight.
